My approach - Driven by material and process, my practice explores their inherent characteristics to challenge and reimagine. I think through making and being process lead, experimentation underpins my practice as an artist and educator. My work is a response to what I am working with, and this practical connection is the catalyst for my creativity. I find working with limitations focuses my understanding of a structure or material and helps me to challenge its possibilities. I take an iterative approach to sampling, systematically work through problems before I achieve something I am technically and aesthetically happy with. I use thinking tools such as paper folding, fabric manipulation, and sketching to allow me to work more spontaneously. These tools help me better understand the variables I am working with or offer a new perspective. It’s this cycle of making, interrogation, documentation, analysis, evaluation, refinement, and remaking, that I love. I see my process as a puzzle to resolve creatively and technically through experimentation.
