Bump

A common theme explored in my work is contrast. ‘Bump’ interrogates the conflicting ideas of expand/contract, shrink/resist, reduce/increase, etc. The composition of the structure incorporates elements of double cloth to produce pockets for inserts and stretch floats to achieve the overall contorted fabric. To help with the initial development of this structure I first experiment with fabric manipulation techniques, stretch fabrics and boning to give me an idea of how the structure would perform before testing on the loom. The images are of the 3rd iteration of woven samples. It can take time to get close to something I am structurally and aesthetically happy with. Once a structure has been established, I use drawing to play with composition and design.
