Woven as one piece, Lattis is a multi-layered, flexible and sculptural fabric. The idea for this structure was derived from ‘Pop Out’, which was developed into an overall interchangeable multi-layered fabric. Once off the loom, this piece explores volume and space, by flexing and expanding or folding flat. Lattis was later developed into ‘Maelstrom’, a large-scale version of this structure, which explores the challenges of scaling up, applying the structure to new fibres, and finishing processes as the pieces had to be cut and shaped once woven. Further exploration into potential ideas has been initiated through fabric manipulation and advanced technology.
